Solved: Samsung Scan Driver Install Blocked

I needed to install a scan driver for a Samsung LaserJet 2070w. The universal Samsung scan driver I downloaded was from a genuine Samsung download site.

I was really surprised that when I tried to install the driver Windows 10 gave me a warning as if it were a suspicious file and Windows needed to protect me from it. (I mean yes, having a working scanner means work to do - nice guy windows wants me to do less work - but this wasn't the case, it really thought the file was suspicious and from an untrusted publisher).

Here's the beautiful "This publisher has been blocked from running software on your machine." for Samsung Electronics CO., LTD.

So the first thing I did was right click the file and clear the protection checkbox "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer.".

You think that solved the problem? No, it even made things worse.

Now I'm greeted with this horror movie error.

This app has been blocked for your protection.

Scary Samsung, why are you making these horrible scan drivers that scare Windows? Anyway, the only way I was able to run the driver and get my scanner to work was to start it via an elevated command prompt window.

Here's how to run the Samsung universal scan driver if Windows 10 decides it is malicious.

1. Type cmd in your search box, once Command Prompt appears, right click it and select "Run as administrator"

2. Place the installer on your hard drive root directory (for simplicity of navigating in the command prompt). Copy it from the downloads folder and paste it in your C: drive.

3. In command prompt use the command "cd C:\" to go directly to your hard drive (use the letter of your hard drive that you have, 99% of the time Windows is installed on C).

4. The scan driver installer file has a long name, type in the 3 first letters of it, like uni and hit TAB on your keyboard. Voila, cmd finds the file that starts with the letters you entered.

5. Hit Enter and your installation will begin.
